ATHLETIX Frequently Asked Questions

What does ATHLETIX do?

ATHLETIX provides coaching for strength and conditioning, athletic development and performance. We work with adults, developing athletes and younger athletes, with pathways designed around your age, experience, goals, sport and training needs.

We also offer personal training, group training, performance testing and other supporting services.

How is ATHLETIX different from other strength and conditioning facilities?

We don't believe everyone should train in exactly the same way.

Your starting point is matched to factors such as your age, experience, sport, goals and current training workload. For younger athletes especially, we focus on developing strong movement foundations before progressing to more complex training.

Do I need to be an athlete to train at ATHLETIX?

No. ATHLETIX works with recreational adults as well as developing and competitive athletes.

We'll help identify the most appropriate starting point based on what you're looking to achieve and your previous training experience.

I'm new to training. Can I join ATHLETIX?

Absolutely. You don't need to be an experienced gym-goer to get started.

We'll look at your experience and goals and help you find an appropriate starting point, including a lighter or more technique-focused option where appropriate.

Do you offer a trial?

Yes.

Our current youth trial is free.

For adults, we currently offer a $7 seven-day trial, which includes coached classes. Independent gym access isn't included in the trial.

What does the adult $7 trial include?

The adult trial provides seven days of access to coached classes.

It does not include independent gym access.

We'll help you identify an appropriate starting class based on your experience, goals and current training needs.

How do I know which class is right for me?

We'll help match you with the most appropriate starting option.

We consider things such as your goals, previous training experience, current workload and the type of training environment you're looking for. You don't need to work out the right class on your own.

I'm nervous about starting. Is ATHLETIX suitable for beginners?

Yes. Your starting point can be matched to your experience and confidence.

The goal is to find an appropriate level rather than simply putting you into the hardest or most advanced session.

Do you offer personal training?

Yes. Personal training is available for people who want individual coaching and support around their specific goals.

The appropriate coach and current PT option are confirmed as part of the consultation and allocation process.

How much does personal training cost?

Our current knowledge base does not contain a complete approved PT price list.

We don't want to give you outdated information, so we'll confirm the current option and pricing through the appropriate process.

Can I request a particular PT coach?

We consider your goals, training needs, age, sport, coach experience, continuity and coach capacity when allocating coaches.

We therefore don't guarantee a particular coach before the allocation has been confirmed.

I only want to get stronger. Do I have to do conditioning as well?

Your training can be matched to your individual goals and support requirements.

If your primary goal is strength, let us know when you enquire so we can identify the most appropriate training option.

What programme is right for my 7–11-year-old?

Children aged 7–11 generally start in our Youth Foundation pathway.

The focus is on developing movement skills and confidence, including foundational strength patterns alongside age-appropriate running, landing, jumping, throwing and changing direction.

What programme is right for my 12–16-year-old?

Children aged 12–16 generally start in our Youth Development pathway.

The programme develops strength foundations and athletic qualities such as acceleration, agility, landing, braking, jumping and throwing, while taking their sport and weekly training workload into account.

My 13-year-old wants to get stronger and faster. What should they do?

The usual starting point is our Youth Development pathway.

The first step is a free trial in an appropriate Development class. We'll consider their age, sport, experience, goals and current workload so they start at an appropriate level.

My child wants to improve speed, agility, balance and coordination. Can ATHLETIX help?

These qualities are part of our youth athletic-development approach.

We'll first establish the appropriate starting level based on your child's age, experience, sport, goals and current training workload.

My child plays soccer/rugby/AFL/basketball. Can they train alongside their sport?

Yes. Their existing sport and weekly training or competition schedule are important when determining the appropriate training pathway and starting level.

The aim is to develop their physical qualities while taking their existing workload into account.

What happens when my child comes for a youth trial?

We'll match them with the appropriate age and development pathway and starting class.

The coach establishes the appropriate starting level rather than assuming that every young person of the same age needs exactly the same training.

Can my child start advanced training straight away?

That depends on their experience, training age, movement competency and current training needs.

We don't assume that being a particular age automatically means someone is ready for an advanced training environment.

What happens if my child is 16–18?

Young people aged 16–18 are considered through a profiled transition rather than being placed into a pathway based on age alone.

Factors such as maturity, training experience, competency, sport, schedule and support needs help determine the appropriate route.

Do you offer strength and conditioning for competitive athletes?

Yes.

Competitive athletes generally start through an athlete consultation and profiling process. This allows us to understand your sport, level, position or event, training history, schedule, goals and existing support before determining the appropriate pathway.

I'm a representative or high-level athlete. What should I do?

We can discuss your requirements through our athlete pathway.

For elite or professional-level enquiries, we'll first confirm the appropriate service, coach, availability and scope rather than promising an option before it has been confirmed.

Do you offer performance testing?

Yes. Performance testing is available where there is a clear reason for testing and a decision or purpose the results need to inform.

We'll first establish what you're looking to understand from the testing and the relevant sporting and training context.

Can I book performance testing whenever I want?

Testing is not simply selected from a generic list.

We'll first understand what you want the testing to tell you, your sport and level, your training and competition schedule, and any relevant injury or return-to-sport considerations. The appropriate coach then confirms the testing arrangement.

Will I receive a performance testing report?

Formal testing reports are currently produced through the approved ATHLETIX process.

We'll confirm the appropriate reporting arrangements when your testing is organised.

I have current pain or an injury. Can I still start training?

If you currently have pain, a recent injury, have had surgery or have a medical restriction, we'll first direct you to the appropriate clinical pathway.

We don't want to recommend a training pathway before the relevant clinical considerations have been addressed.

Can ATHLETIX help me with an injury?

ATHLETIX can facilitate contact with the appropriate physiotherapy pathway.

For current pain or injury, the enquiry is directed to the relevant clinicians so they can determine the appropriate follow-up.

Can someone at reception tell me whether I'm safe to train after an injury?

Training safety and return-to-sport decisions need to be addressed by the appropriate professional.

Our reception team can help connect you with the right pathway, but they won't diagnose an injury or provide medical or return-to-sport clearance.

What memberships do you offer?

We have membership options at ATHLETIX, but our current information does not contain a complete approved list of membership names, inclusions and prices.

We'll confirm the current membership options with you rather than giving you information that may be out of date.

How do I get started?

The easiest place to start is by telling us:

  • Who the training is for
  • Their age
  • What you'd like to achieve
  • Their current sport or activity
  • Their previous training experience
  • Whether there is any current pain, injury, surgery or medical restriction
Can my child do S&C for their specific sport?

Yes. ATHLETIX works with developing athletes across different sports.

Your child's sport, level, position or event, training history, weekly schedule and goals can all be considered when determining the appropriate pathway and training approach.

Can you help my child improve speed, agility and explosiveness?

Yes. Speed, agility, acceleration, jumping, landing, braking and power development are all part of the athletic-development pathways.

The appropriate starting point depends on your child's age, experience, competency, sport and existing training workload.

Can my child do strength training without simply trying to get “big”?

Yes. Strength training can be part of a broader athletic-development programme.

For young athletes, the focus is not simply on adding size. Training can be considered alongside their sport, experience, goals and overall workload, with progression appropriate to their development.

My child already has a gym programme. Can ATHLETIX help with it?

Potentially. If your child already has an existing programme, we can first understand what they're currently doing, their sporting commitments and what additional support they're looking for.

The appropriate service depends on whether they need coaching, individual programming, athlete profiling or another form of support.

Can you create an individual programme for my young athlete?

Individualised support is available through the appropriate athlete or PT pathway.

For competitive athletes, the starting point is generally an athlete consultation and profiling process so that their sport, training history, schedule, goals and existing support can be understood before determining the appropriate pathway.

Can my child combine group training with individual coaching?

There are both group and individual coaching options available.

The most appropriate combination depends on your child's goals, experience, sport, training schedule and level of individual support required.

Can you work around my child's existing sport training and competition schedule?

Yes. Existing sport training and competition workload is an important part of determining an appropriate training pathway.

For youth athletes, the aim is to consider their overall weekly workload rather than treating their S&C training separately from everything else they are doing.

My child is already a high-level athlete. Is there a different pathway?

Yes. Competitive athletes generally enter through an athlete consultation and profiling pathway rather than simply joining a general youth class.

For elite or professional-level athletes, the appropriate service and coach are confirmed through the high-performance pathway.

Can I get testing first and then decide what training I need?

Performance testing can be useful when there is a clear decision or purpose the testing is intended to inform.

We'll first understand what you're hoping to learn from the testing, your sporting context and relevant training considerations. The appropriate testing arrangement is then confirmed through the coaching process.

Do you offer short-term or ongoing athlete support?

The appropriate pathway can depend on what you're trying to achieve.

ATHLETIX supports developing and competitive athletes through consultation, profiling, coaching and other services. Whether a short-term or ongoing arrangement is appropriate depends on the athlete's goals, needs, schedule and support requirements.
